Shields Joins the UFC Roster

Jake Shields has signed to the UFC. It had been pretty much known for a while that he would, and that he was in negotiations with them, but today it was known that he's 1 step from being an official member of the roster. Jake Shields had an appearance during the Aldo vs. Faber WEC PPV back in April. He was seen sitting next to a grinning Dana White, which was an obvious shot at Strikeforce. Coincidentally, this was one week after Shield's final match on his contract with the promotion. The fight happened to be the biggest fight of his career, as he got a dominating win over former UFC and Pride superstar Dan Henderson. Shields is going to be fighting at 170 in the UFC, which is actually quite bothersome.
It seems as if Anderson Silva continues to be protected and fed guys tailor made for him. Shields would easily beat Anderson Silva, his wrestling is much better and his BJJ is too, the ground is Silva's major hole in his game. Instead, another contender for GSP's title has been added. Oh well, UFC is a business and they need to have a guy who they can argue is the pound-for-pound king since they don't have the real one (Fedor Emelianenko). We'll see how Shields career plays out and what he brings to the table against GSP.
