The giants collide at UFC 116
By: Dux

Tonight, the UFC's biggest heavyweights step into the cage to decide who is the #1 heavyweight in the organization. Shane Carwin will step into the octagon with a record of 12-0. Brock Lesnar will step in with wins over Frank Mir and Randy Couture. One of the interesting things will be how the long lay off of Lesnar's will affect his performance tonight.
He hasn't seen fight action since his impressive win over Mir at UFC 100 last July. He also happens to be stepping up to fight the biggest, strongest, and heavy handed fighter he has ever faced in his short career. Lesnar himself is a big athletic guy himself, though.
The way I see the fight going when these two giants get locked up inside the cage to square off is with Lesnar immediately shooting for a take down. Expect Lesnar to score maybe one or two take downs, but also expect Carwin to get up right away. In the Couture fight, Randy was able to pop right back up from underneath Lesnar. As shown in the Gonzaga fight, Carwin is no slouch when it comes to getting out of from underneath his opponent, even WHILE rocked he was able to get out of the position. Just as in the Couture fight, their wrestling will be negated and Brock will be worried about expending all of his energy trying to take him down, and will be forced to work some stand up.
That's where Shane wants the fight. Although they both have rudimentary striking, I give the edge to Carwin because the man has sledge hammers for fists. I can see Lesnar getting a few good shots in, but Carwin has shown that he can walk through punches. Which is saying a lot, considering he fights in a division where your opponent usually packs 220+lbs behind their punches, and any flush shot can knock you senseless. Carwin will trade taking some punches to land the one big shot, as is his bread and butter, and then knock Lesnar out.
This fight won't make it out of the first round. But it will be exciting for as long as it lasts. This is the heavyweight fight that will shake the world, don't miss it!
